Real-time control of aroma synthesis in oenological fermentation

• Duration: 3 years
• Location : Montpellier
• The aim of this thesis project is to control the synthesis of aromas in wine by developing innovative strategies for real-time control of the alcoholic fermentation process, based on predictive mathematical models. These strategies will also have to take into account numerous constraints linked to the process and the energy consumption of fermentation, which must remain sufficiently low. Depending on the candidate's experience and interests, a wide range of research questions can be explored, from biological mechanistic modeling of flavor synthesis (model development, calibration, system identification and/or model reduction) to real-time control (observability, constrained non-linear control, optimization). The project will include a theoretical study of the mathematical problem, numerical simulations and experimental validation of the control laws to be applied and tested on the real process located at the Pech Rouge experimental unit in Gruissan.
• Required skills : Graduate student (Bac+5), Engineer or Master 2 with a background in bioprocess modeling, control theory or applied mathematics, with a taste for applications. Knowledge of biological processes or systems is not required, but would be a plus. Good programming skills are required (Python and/or Matlab and/or R).

 Offre de Thèse: Vers un prototype d'expérimentation on Farm des effets des biosolutions sur le blé, approche par modèle numérique

• Durée : 3 ans
• Localisation : Montpellier
• Il s’agit d’un doctorat combinant deux disciplines qui nécessitera un accueil sur deux sites montpelliérains. L’UMR MISTEA s’intéresse aux problèmes de modélisation des systèmes agro-environnementaux et met au point des méthodes d’analyse mathématique, statistique et de contrôle des systèmes dynamiques. L’équipe MOMIE au sein de l’Institut de Santé des Plantes de Montpellier (PHIM3) s’intéresse aux modulations de l’immunité des céréales par les pratiques culturales (biocontrôle, biostimulants, fertilisation, mélange variétaux).
• Profil attendu : Etudiant(e) Bac+5, Ingénieur ou Master 2 en mathématiques appliquées, avec un attrait pour les problématiques agronomiques. Une bonne maîtrise du logiciel R, python ou Julia est requise. Une connaissance des méthodes statistiques d’apprentissage et/ou des modèles de dynamique hôte - parasite représente un atout.
